Description

Foscarini’s commitment to innovation is reinforced by the open, collaborative environment the company fosters. This atmosphere of creative inspiration encourages international designers—whether established or up-and-coming—to work together in order to identify the crucial elements of a concept and refine them into intriguing, inventive lighting with a high degree of personalization. Thus, the company is known for lamps and lighting displays that not only imbue a space with light, but also with powerful emotion.

  • Iconic Product: Orbital Floor Lamp — In 1993 designer Ferruccio Laviani created the Orbital Floor Lamp. An aesthetic and textural tour de force, Orbital features multiple silkscreen-printed satin glass diffusers in a variety of colors mounted on a central axis of lacquered metal atop four prong-style feet. Orbital perfectly characterizes Foscarini’s penchant for innovation and aesthetic re-contextualization, as the colored diffusers suggest the distinctive silhouettes of a painter’s palette.
  • Iconic Designer: Marc Sadler— For more than a decade, Foscarini and designer Marc Sadler have shared a fruitful and inspired collaboration. Building on his background in the sports sector, Sadler has parlayed his knowledge of materials science and advanced production processes into multiple innovative designs. Sadler’s Mite and Tite for Foscarini—which won the Compasso D’Oro in 2001—make use of a flattened diffuser constructed from a cutting-edge fiberglass fabric. The diffuser allows light to fill the entire length of the diffuser, thus imbuing each fixture with a warm, transcendent illumination.
  • Table Lamps — Foscarini’s collection of table lamps exemplifies the broad range of emotionally expressive lighting the company is known for. Pieces by renowned designers like Patricia Urquiola (Caboche Gold Table Lamp), Ludovica+Roberto Palomba (Gregg Table Lamp), and Uto (Lagranja Design) illustrate how these aesthetically divergent lamps can establish a variety of moods—from whimsy, to exuberance, to contemplative introspection.
  • Commercial Collaboration: Diesel — In 2009, Foscarini announced a partnership with retail brand Diesel. This manufacturer of clothing and accessories is known for its avant garde aesthetic and pronounced appeal to a young demographic. The Successful Living from Diesel with Foscarini Collection, has thus facilitated a “new language and new aesthetics to conquer a new public.” In two years, Foscarini and Diesel have authored multiple innovative designs for both residential and commercial venues, including the Cage Suspension Lamp (Skype office, Stockholm) and the intriguing Pett Table Lamp.

Foscarini has consistently demonstrated an ability to take the pulse of contemporary A&D and translate that knowledge into innovative, aesthetically advanced lighting designs. The manufacturer aggressively pursues all avenues toward creating and realizing cutting-edge lamps. By fostering collaboration within an international pool of accomplished designers, establishing a marked presence at international trade fairs and exhibitions, and pursuing the latest advances in production processes and materials science, Foscarini is able to produce a lightpiece for every mood, for all the vicissitudes of human emotion.
